Mannheim Street Food Tour

Saturday was our last day in Germany, so we spent the day cramming in all the good food we could find. In the morning, we shopped the Mannheim farmers market and at night we took in the Ludwigshafen Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas market). What follows is a tour of the Mannheim area street food we ate that day:

• butter brezel (one of Kiima's favorites)
• frikadellen (a sort of meatloaf served on a roll)
• rostbratwurst (sausage served on a roll with mustard)
• belegtes laugen brotchen mit salami (pretzel roll filled with salami and cucumber)
• belegtes croissant mit schinken und kase (croissant filled with ham and cheese)
• gluhwein (warm spiced red wine)
• gluhbier (warm framboise lambic beer)
• flammkuchen (a sort of paper-thin pizza with cream cheese sauce, onions and bacon)
• schmalzbrot (a criminally underrated mixture of pork lard with onions and bacon, like someone figured out how to make gravy toothpaste)
• schupfnudeln (an incredible casserole of spaetzle, sauerkraut, bacon and ham)
• kartoffelpuffer (deep fried latke)
• schokokuss (marshmallow and rice wafer covered in chocolate)
• underberg (an aperitif that tastes like jaegermeister; "good for digestion")
