...your party from saturn has departed

Sunday, our start day, was surreal. Not only were we busy with last minute laundry, trips to the storage place, trash dumps and internet planning, but we kept smelling this strong gas smell in the hallways of our building. We notified the condo staff, but they didn't seem too alarmed. Wouldn't you know it...just as we stepped out of the elevator with our packed bags, the fire alarm went off. As we walked away with amazement, the fire engines began pulling up to the building. All we could say was: Holy Crap! Glad we made it out!. Lael, if you are reading this, please check Mom's condo.

At the airport, we met up with family. Our airport send-off was surprisingly large. Thanks to all the family for coming out (and making me cry).

Hey Kiima and Lee,

You've brought back some great memories for me as I lived in Mannheim from 1983 - 1986 and in Stuttgart from 1996 - 2001! I traveled a lot to Heidelberg and enjoyed many of the same foods, sights, and especially the beer! It's lots of fun reading your diary -- keep up the good work!
